Balticon 60
My experience as the staff photographer.
Balticon, a scifi and fantasy convention with a great author undercurrent, held in Baltimore, Maryland (not the Baltics, like many layman have inquired). I volunteer so i can go for free and hang out with friends i don’t see very often. I offer my photography skills. I often feel like only photographer for the entire convention, which means every time block, i have to be in 3-7 places within the hour, so i don’t really get to enjoy panels or concerts or whatnot. I did manage a 10 minute jaunt through both of the dealer’s rooms. Now, imagine doing that from 8am-8pm every day. Sometimes i get lunch or dinner. i went from a pack of cigs a day to one cig a day at the con. (i was a little grouchy about the lack of nicotine, but hopefully noone noticed.) By Saturday, I NEEDED breakfast or i’d not make it through the biggest day of the con. My dear friends shared their guest vouchers with me for the buffet.
I’ve been able to manage a half a cigarette (6 minutes) twice a day. Before the shift, and after. I am indeed trying to cut back, and it seems i’m doing that. I am meeting cool people in outside; other female horror authors that i want to have on the podcast (we’re planning season 8 right now).
Sleep has been illusive at the con. I got home at 7pm, ate taco bell, and “laid down for a nap” at 9. then it’s 530 am again.
A more in depth post con report is on my facebook. It is now wednesday, and i slept 13 hours last night, so i will catch up on sleep eventually.
tomorrow im back in Baltimore for my server (The Flipside) meetup. I still need to process the sunday media, but DM me or comment here to get into the queue.
